Slow Cable Modem Speeds With Some Macs

This affects Motorola Surfboard cable modems and other modems using the broadcom chip.

Does it seem like Windows computers are surfing web sites faster than your Mac?

What is comes down to is the TCP Window size in OS X is 32K. In Windows XP it is 64K.

By adjusting the TCP Window size in OS X to match Windows you'll get similar speeds.

Check versiontracker or macupdate for the following GUI application that can make this change:

- Broadband Optimizer
- Carrafix.com
- Download Accelerator Plus
- Throttled
- SpeedDownload 2
