Thoughts On Apple
-I appreciate Apple's focus. OS X upgrade cycles have a theme. One major update will be to add features. The next update will focus on stability and speed. They seem to be doing this with the hardware too. iPhone 3 and iPhone 3GS kept the same form but the iOS improved dramatically. iPhone 4 introduced new hardware. Most recently the hardware form factor stayed the same for the iPhone 4S but there has been tremendous focus on the Siri part of iOS 5.
-I think there is a reason why Siri requires an Internet connection. Ostensibly it is for the backend servers to process the voice requests. But my hypothesis is Apple is keeping track of these queries not only to make Siri better but to build something new. There have been rumors of Apple building a search engine but that is only part of the story I believe. I think we're going to see Siri become part of OS X and Apple to build a Recommendation Engine.
-The iPhone/iPad itself will become the Recommendation Engine. Apple's most recently acquired company is Chomp, a company that specializes in helping the user find apps. Yet when I use Zite it feels like this is the near future where a personal device collects and sorts data, information, media, and news of interest to the user. I suspect the underlying technology of Chomp may be such that Apple believes it is applicable to everything within the Apple wall.
-Siri is only the start. It is what will get people used to artificial intelligence. I believe the first real use (that is, something other than entertainment) of the AI will be in medicine. What we'll do is hold our phone up to our face every day and the camera/sensors will be used to diagnose our health and make recommendations.
-What will happen with maps? Apple has purchased Poly9, PlaceBase, and C3.
And Apple has always made content creation as important as content consumption. Even at Pixar Steve Jobs dreamed of creating lifelike 3D images at home (Steve Jobs, p. 247). My hunch is buying mapping companies is Apple's response and worry to Google charging fees for access to the Map API's and so Apple's devices can become mapping/scanning tools.

-You often hear "Steve Jobs didn't invent [X], but he perfected it". Apple's record financials and market cap clearly show he perfected the art of the corporation too.
-The leadership of Tim Cook will bring about a kinder and gentler Apple. It has already begun.
Examples
9to5Mac: CEO Tim Cook breaks down $150M in charitable contributions by Apple (including Apple's $10,000 match for employees who give to a nonprofit)
FastCompany: Apple Speaks Openly, Discloses Environmental And Rights Issues Among Its Suppliers
I suspect Apple's $100 billion will be used by Mr. Cook to create something close to fair trade computing, but in a way that benefits Apple.
-The new iPad 3/HD announcement has the feeling of being something much bigger. And it won't be a surprise if the new iPad can function as part of the new Apple TV. I expect the new Apple TV to be a full iOS device (meaning same apps as the the iPad) and the recommendation engine Apple is building may well have its unveiling with the next revision of the Apple TV.
