TV On The Internet

More and more people are using their computer to watch TV as Ars reports Study: more couch potatoes parked in front of PC to watch TV.

Most people are familiar with the ubiquitous YouTube and the new Hulu looks very promising. In fact, I am quite excited to be able to watch, for free, full episodes and clips of my favorite television shows:
Arrested Development
30 Rock
Battlestar Galactica

This trend will continue as products that bridge the Internet and television like the Apple TV Take 2 become more popular and successful (See: Apple TV Nails It the Second Time Around). Although I am disappointed that in 2001 I could watch a variety of channels on QuickTime TV on a lowly first generation iMac yet today Flash video stutters my G4 Macs. QuickTime TV was so promising with Fox News, BBC, and Bloomberg (in fact it was on QuickTime TV that I watched live the events of September 11th, 2001 unfold).

Were Apple TV able to have a reincarnation of live QuickTime TV then I believe it could be a viable replacement for cable television.
